Style For Less: Beyonce For H&M + New Song Title Released

Photo: Beyoncé for H&M Summer 2013

Beyoncé is the new face of H&M‘s summer campaign. Rumors popped up last year that Beyonce was shooting a campaign for the popular brand when she was spotted in the Bahamas, and now we have an official first peek! Bey will appear in “Beyoncé as Mrs. Carter in H&M” print ads,  television commercials, and larger than life billboards when the “Mrs. Carter World Tour” officially kicks off April 15. Beyonce also helped design the looks. H&M Head of Design, Ann-Sofie Johansson says that the line is full of Bey’s personal style, and will feature “the perfect bodycon dress,” a beach gown with a high slit at the thigh, high-waisted shorts and a sleeveless shirt. A quarter of the sales will be donated to the WaterAid charity.

In a release, Bey expressed her excitement in teaming up with H&M:

“I’ve always liked H&M’s focus on fun and affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements – fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial.”

The H&M commercials will also feature Bey’s new song, “Standing On The Sun.”

H&M to Launch In-Store Recycling Program

H&M sure has a way of keeping their store in the headlines… but I’m not complaining because typically its for a great reason like this one!

It was recently announced that fast-fashion giant H&M would be launching a global recycling initiative, which would allow customers to exchange unwanted clothing for an in-store discount.

According to WWD, the program — called iCollect — will be available at H&M stores worldwide starting in February 2013. Here’s how it works: for every bag of used clothing you donate, H&M will hand out a voucher for a discount on your next in-store purchase. The donated clothing will then be recycled and made into new textiles.

The program is part of the retailer’s ongoing goal to only use sustainable cotton by the year 2020.

Lookbook: H&M’s ‘Fashion Against AIDS’ Spring 2012 Collection

H&M has designed a 2012 capsule collection to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS, with a portion of each sale going to charity.

For their fifth annual Fashion Against AIDS collection, H&M drew inspiration from “global styles” by commissioning one-of-a-kind prints from international artists and illustrators in order to create colorful and fashion-forward designs. According to H&M, 25% of all proceeds will go directly to several international youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects: Designers Against AIDS, MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, the United Nations Population Fund and YouthAIDS.

The spring 2012 Fashion Against AIDS collection launches online (where available) and at 300 H&M stores worldwide starting this Thursday, April 26th.

H&M has registered the name of its much talked-about upcoming label. The new chain the Swedish brand is set to establish will be called “& Other Stories,” which sounds more like a book store or antique shop. It will be interesting to see what the store offers and how it is different from the current H&M brand and offerings.
